Hackers steal details of Sony mobile customers

A group calling itself "Null\Crew" said it had attacked a mobile communications server, with a Sony spokesman said on Thursday, confirming the cyber thieves had grabbed information belonging to 400 customers in mainland China and Taiwan.
Null\Crew, which reportedly has links to international computer hacking group Anonymous, posted online usernames, e-mails and some passwords along with a statement critical of the Japanese firm, AP reports.
"Sony, we are dearly disappointed in your security," it said, adding that it had gained control of eight Sony servers, which could not be immediately confirmed.
"Not even your customers can trust you," it added.
The company spokesman said the incident was being investigated and added that the server with client details belonged to an unnamed "third party", and not Sony itself.

In April last year Sony suffered a massive data breach that compromised more than 100 million accounts and forced it to temporarily halt its PlayStation Network and Qriocity services.
And in October, the firm suspended 93,000 accounts on its online entertainment networks, which let users play videogames and watch movies, after detecting a wave of unauthorised sign-in attempts.
The entertainment giant has been battling to restore consumer trust after the initial security gaffe, with a string of subsequent attacks on websites including in Greece, Thailand and Indonesia.
In another incident, a group of hackers known as Lulz Security in June said they had compromised more than one million passwords, email addresses and other information from SonyPictures.com.

Nokia’s Lumia 920 and 820: How they look, work and feel

Nokia launched two smartphones yesterday — the Lumia 920 and the Lumia 820, both of which will run on Windows 8 OS. So what are the key features of the two smartphones? We take a quick look.
First, let’s look at the technical specifications of both smartphones.
Nokia Lumia 920: This is, of course, Nokia’s flagship device. As far as technical specifications go, this has a curved 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ screen. A dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU with 1 GB RAM, 32 GB disk space and 7 GB storage in the cloud with SkyDrive for users.
Nokia also promises a bigger 2,000mAh battery which is expected to last 10 hours with 3G. The Lumia 920 has NFC, integrated wireless charging and an 8.7 megapixel rear PureView camera with HD video. The phone also has “Super Sensitive Touch,” which will let users handle their smartphone even while wearing gloves.
Nokia Lumia 820 : This is the less pricier version. The smartphone has polycarbonate unibody with a 4.3 inch screen. It is also NFC enabled with an 8 megapixel PureView branded camera. This smartphone will also support wireless charging. The 1GB RAM and dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor will ensure that there is little lag. It has 8GB space (expandable upto 32 GB) and 7 GB in SkyDrive.
Tech specifications aside here are a few new features of the Windows 8-Nokia Lumia smartphones:
Augmented reality with Nokia’s City Lens app: This means that users can now point their Lumia smartphone cameras to restaurants, hotels, etc to find out reviews about the place.
JBL speakers with wireless power-charging: Nokia has teamed up with JBL to produce special speakers that can be used to wirelessly charge the Lumia smartphones. Users can also play music from the phone, using NFC. You’ll have to buy this separately.
Wireless charging: This is Nokia’s biggest innovation as far as smartphones go. The wireless chargers come in all shapes, sizes and colours. They’re all Qi-compatible, which means users can choose any wireless charger. The three kinds of chargers available are: Wireless Charging Plate, Wireless Charging Pillow by Fatboy and Wireless Charging Stand. According to the official site, none of the wireless charging devices will be included in the sales package. Users will probably have to buy them separately.
Windows and the Tile system: The Lumia 920 and 820 are also major investments for Microsoft, which is probably why CEO Steve Ballmer and Joe Belfiore, manager of the Windows Phone Program were present at the launch. Belfiore pointed out how the new Windows 8 system for mobile could be easily personalised by users with the tile interface, which is definitely something new.
The most exciting bit is of course that Windows 8 finally has screenshots. Yay. The bad bit: users can’t upgrade Windows 7 phones nor will all apps written for Windows Phone 8 run on Windows 7. Lack of backward compatibility is a big downside.
The price and the shipping date of the smartphones has not been revealed as yet.

iPhone 5 Release Date Nears; Leaked Video Shows Larger Screen

Tech giant Apple is expected to finally unveil the latest iPhone in the next few days. A new video spread online revealed the device's massive screen.

New leaks and information about the new iPhone continues to surface online every day. Most of the rumors are about new iPhone 5 details, including specs and features, design, and accessories for the upcoming handset.
Surprisingly, it was claimed that a dummy iPhone 5 went unnoticed at IFA 2012 as all attention and focus was on the launching of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

GSMIsrael reported that they saw found the dummy iPhone 5 and it contains all of the major rumors floating around. The report said that iPhone 5 is taller and bigger than its predecessors and the headphone jack was moved at the bottom of the device.

A leaked video featured the casing of the allegedly iPhone 5. The footage from iLab Factory showed Apple's flagship phone with a massive screen. The video also showed the new dock connector of the device.
According to the latest rumors, iPhone 5 is speculated to have the final measurement specs will be 58.47mm x 123.83mm x 7.6mm. As with previous iterations, thickness is expected to be equal across the body.
With minimal changes made on the outside, we can only hope that the Apple packed more inside the new iPhone 5. Some of the rumored features of the upcoming iPhone 5 are 4G/LTE capability, A6 chip and equipped by the new iOS 6. iPhone 5 will have a 9-pin dock connector. The beta version of iOS 6 holds proof on this claim. Smaller dock connector will yield more space inside for greater features.
Apple is also expected to release an iPad Mini, which is rumored to have 7.3 mm thick, 134.73mm wide, 200.13mm long, and feature a mini dock connector, redesigned speakers, and add a microphone on the backside. Moreover, the iPad Mini will feature a rear camera and a front camera for FaceTime, although the pixels of shooters are not yet revealed.

iPhone 5 is expected to be launched on September 12 at a media event and will be available on September 21. However, iPad Mini is speculated to be launched at a later date. Watch the leaked video of the alleged iPhone 5 below.

Last week pictures of Nokia’s next range of Lumia devices, the 920 and 820, were leaked through the  same Twitter account. The Lumia 920 reportedly has a 4.5 inch screen.
Nokia’s new smartphone will have a dual-core processor, according to the Verge report. Unlike an HTC One X or a Galaxy S III, Nokia might not upgrade the processor to a quad-core version. The Lumia 900 also had a dual-core processor clocked at 1.5Ghz.

Motorola’s next phone allegedly full-screen = frameless

This past week was particularly rich in news, thanks to the IFA event in Germany, but next week will be equally interesting given that Motorola and Nokia are going to launch their high-end smartphone offering for 2012. Both events happen on Sept 5 and Ubergizmo will be there to provide full coverage, so mark your calendars (9am ET and 2pm ET)!
The stakes are high, and from what is leaking out ahead of the launch, Motorola will feature a phone that was described by Bloomberg as being a “full-screen” phone, which means that there is little to no frame at all around the display.

This would be consistent with Google’s view since Android 4.0 where the physical front buttons became superfluous. If you missed it, Google acquired Motorola Mobility for $12B, partially to help in the patent war with Apple, and the upcoming launch should be the first major handset launch since the acquisition. The new Motorola phone is going to launch on the Verizon network.
If true, a frameless design could provide quite a boost for Motorola, and bring fresh novelty in an extremely competitive space. The phone will go against the next iPhone, which seems to be yet another evolution of the current iPhone 4S, with a thinner and (very) slightly longer design. From what we can tell, Samsung does not plan to launch another major device now that the Galaxy Note 2 has been announced.
What’s your take? Is frameless hot or not? Drop a comment!213764
